On getting to do the work (actually the wrong question)

“How do I get to do the work?”

The Business Sponsor tells you that they already know what the solution is.

The Domain Expert just needs you to translate what they want into technical speak.

The User tells you (absolutely) everything that’s wrong with business operations, to pass on to IT.

And the Project Manager says there’s no time for elicitation or analysis, and asks if the document is ready?

All to get the project done.

But that’s not business analysis, not anymore. And it doesn’t work, not anymore.

We’re going to talk about how you’ll get permission to do the work. But it’s the effect, not the cause.

Business analysis is important enough to do it right, which means doing the right parts first.
